Long Island Children's Summer Day Camps 2018 at Garvies Point Museum Preserve in Glen Cove, Nassau County, Long Island, New York.
Hands-on learning, activities and crafts for children 5-7 and 8-11 years old. Tuesday-Friday 9:30AM-12:30PM and 1:00PM-4:00PM or 9:30AM-4:00PM. Morning (9:30AM-12:30PM) and afternoon (1:00PM-4:00PM) sessions available.
Nature I
Pond study, all about birds, flowers and seeds, composting and recycling (5-7, 8-11)
Nature II
Beach exploration, trees and leaves, insects and spiders, gardens and pollination (5-7, 8-11)
Native American
Tools, artifacts, culture, shelter, pottery, games and legends, fire and survival (5-7, 8-11)
Junior Geologist
Discovering dinosaurs and fossils, rocks and minerals, erosion, rock collecting (5-7 only)
Geology
Rocks and minerals, water erosion, fossils, Garvies and Long Island geology (8-11 only)
$150.00 per child four AM or PM sessions. Children can stay for 4 full days for $300.00 per child. Registration and pre-payment required. No refunds.
Daily schedule:Hands-on learning session (varies on daily topic), snack break with half an hour film to reinforce what was discussed/observed, educational craft and/or experiment. Garvies Point Museum and Preserve
Overlooking the Hemstead Harbor, Garvies Point Museum and Preserve is an exhibition devoted to the Native American culture and the science of archaeology. Relating to local regional geology, visitors will find a wealth of artifacts including maps, rocks and fossils found in the northern parts of Long Island. This elaborate museum boasts a well-stocked gift shop with various precious stones and jewelry for sale. Many classes are also available including jewelry workshops and sculpture. |
