Laurie Anderson Concert for Dogs 2016 at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
Calling all canines. Calling their owners. You and your cherished pooch are invited to an extraordinary event at LongHouse - a first ever concert for dogs.
The idea for this remarkable "first" was precipitated by a conversation held eight years ago between performance artist and recipient of the LongHouse Award, Laurie Anderson, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the Rhode Island School of Design. Anderson mentioned a fantasy of hers: to play for an audience of dogs. Ma incredulously responded: "Are you kidding? I have the same fantasy" and Anderson's dream took hold. Since then, she has entertained the canine crowd and their owners in Sydney, Australia and in Times Square, New York to rave reviews. Now, her phantasmagorical dream comes to LongHouse.
This one-of-a-kind happening takes place on two days in two venues. Anderson's acclaimed documentary, "Heart of a Dog", a love-letter to her late husband Lou Reed and their rat terrier, Lolabelle, will be screened at Guild Hall on Thursday, August 11. Ms. Anderson’s concert will take place in the LongHouse amphitheater on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Leashed dogs are welcome.
