At CRT, we have egalitarian, inclusive worship services. Consequently, all temple members (including children above Bar/Bat Mitzvah age) are offered the opportunity to participate in High Holy Day services. Some participate in Torah services by reading or chanting Torah or Haftarah (both Hebrew and English), or reciting the blessings for these readings, or by dressing or undressing the Torah. Other members are invited to open the Ark at various points in the services, or to read passages (in Hebrew or English).
The prayer book we use is Gates of Repentance, first published by the Central Conference of American Rabbis (Reform) in 1978. Members are expected to purchase this book as they are not provided in the sanctuary, as the Shabbat siddurs are. Guests may borrow prayer books from the office for the day.
CRT publishes and distributes a Book of Remembrance for the Yizkor service on Yom Kippur. It features the names of family and friends who are being remembered during Yizkor, with entries requested by temple members. |
