Grateful Greyhounds, Inc., is a non-profit volunteer-run
organization helping to rescue greyhounds, rehabilitate and
place them into loving homes. We raise awareness of the
plight of the racing greyhound, and participate in various
community outreach programs. GG serves NYC, Long Island,
Westchester/Rockland Counties, and some parts on New Jersey.

Katie's Critters Small Animal Rescue, Inc.'s mission is to
help in the prevention of cruelty to small animals. We
rescue and rehabilitate abandoned, abused, neglected, and
unwanted small animals, including birds. We assist
Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter, Kent Animal Shelter, as well
as the Nassau County S.P.C.A and The Suffolk CountyS.P.C.A..
We take in Ferrets, Guinea Pigs, Rats, Hamsters, Gerbils,
Chinchillas, Rabbits, Parakeets, Conures, Cockatiels,
Cockatoos, ect. We provide them with food, shelter, proper
veterinary care, and loving, caring home environment until
they are adopted. We get them the proper veterinary care
that they need, and deserve, and when they are ready, we
place them up for adoption to suitable, loving, caring
homes. However, some animals that we take in may be too
aggressive, or we are not successful in rehabilitating them.
Therefore, they will stay here with us as sanctuary pets. We
are a NO KILL RESCUE! Every animal deserves a chance at
life, and we make it happen!
We also like to educate the public on the overpopulation of
small animals, and the need to try to spay and neuter their
small animals, or only house the same sex animals together.
We understand the concern about the anesthisia and these
small critters, so that is why we only will adopt out the
same sex animals. Too many are ending up in rescues, such as
ours. We are looking out for the welfare of any and all
small animals, and birds.
We do not promote breeding of any kind. Adoption of small
animals is far more better than supporting mills and over
breeding of animals by purchasing them!
The Kent Animal Shelter is a private, not for profit humane
society founded in 1968 to provide a haven for homeless,
abused and abandoned animals until new homes can be found.
The shelter never destroys an animal unless incurably ill.
Over 600 animals are placed in responsible homes each year
and more than 300 animals are spayed or neutered at the Kent
low cost Spay/Neuter clinic. Kent Animal Shelter also has a
Pet Therapy Program and a Retirement Home Program for cats
that survive their owners. Located on the scenic property
near the Peconic River, with a dedicated staff, spacious
exercise facilities and expert medical supervision, Kent is
much more than a shelter.
Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center, one of Long
Island's oldest no-kill shelters, is dedicated to saving all
companion animals whose lives are in jeopardy. Through
rescue from kill facilities, rehabilitation of sick and
un-socialized pets, and a 100% spay/neuter program, Little
Shelter hopes to end pet overpopulation and place all dogs
and cats in loving homes. Located in Huntington, Little
Shelter is the only animal organization outside New York
City that is a member of the Mayor's Alliance.
Sometime in 1995, after seeing a National Geographic special
called "Racing for their Lives," a story about the plight of
the racing GreyHound, six people from the community gathered
around a kitchen table and started L.I.G.H.T. (Long Island
GreyHound Transfer.) We are the first Long Island based 501
(c) (3) non-profit, all-volunteer run GreyHound rescue
organization.
Since that time, we have been featured in several newspaper
articles, as well as appearing on Long Island CH.12 'The
Family Pet', the Martha Stewart Living Show, National
Geographic Today, the Long Island Ducks, the New York Mets,
Broadway Barks and various other local TV and radio
stations. Throughout each year we also attend several
community fairs and festivals, school assemblies, Boy & Girl
Scout Troop's Meetings, all to alert and educate the public
about the plight of the GreyHound once their 'racing days'
are over with.
Each year over thirty thousand GreyHounds nationwide, are
'put down' due to lack of available homes. We have rescued
and placed (in 'forever homes') over twelve hundred
GreyHounds since our beginning. We still have a long way to
go. We always need donations for medical and operational
costs. All contributions to L.I.G.H.T. are tax deductable.
Long Island Labrador Retriever Rescue is an all volunteer,
nonprofit, tax exempt, charitable organization established to
secure the health and welfare of abandoned and unwanted purebred
Labrador Retrievers. Representative of the Labrador Retriever
Club National Rescue Program, AKC Breed Rescue Network and
Project Breed. LILRR is not an animal shelter - Labs rescued by
LILRR are fostered within the private homes of breed
knowledgeable volunteers for thorough health, training and
behavior assessment prior to placement consideration. Priority
focus is given Labs jeopardized within the ever-crowded
municipal (kill) shelters. July 29th Book Signing in Port

The Long Island Parrot Society of New York, Inc. D/B/A The Long
Island Parrot Society exists as a non-profit, 501c3 organization
dedicated to improving the lives of psittaciformes through
education, research, advocacy and service, to help prevent
endangerment or extinction, and to create a shelter and adoption
center for displaced parrots and other pet birds.
We support rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing efforts, and
have contributed to avian shelters, veterinary research,
conservation projects, post-9/11 funds and to the animal victims
of Hurricane Katrina.
The Long Island Parrot Society is "for the birds". We are
dedicated to responsible bird ownership through education and
example. Our members include breeders, pet shop professionals,
and parrot fanatics who share their homes with multiple birds,
and there are members who are proud to have just one special
parrot.
The Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is an all-volunteer
group based on Long Island, New York. We are devoted to the
proper care of domestic rabbits, education of rabbit owners,
and the increased awareness about these wonderful, loving
creatures. Adopting a friend: LIRRG's goal is to help every
bunny have a safe, loving, indoor home. Our adoption
procedures include an interview process, home visits, and
education of potential adopters. There is an adoption fee to
help us defray the cost of veterinary care and spay/neuter
of all of the bunnies we adopt out.
North Shore Animal League America, headquartered in Port
Washington, NY, is the largest no-kill animal rescue and
adoption organization in the world. Since 1944, The League's
mission has been saving the lives of pets through adoption,
rescue, spay/neuter and advocacy initiatives. Every year,
the League reaches across the country to rescue, nurture and
adopt nearly 20,000 pets into happy and loving homes. To
date, the League has placed close to 1 million puppies,
kittens, cats and dogs into carefully screened homes.
The Priceless Parrot Preserve is the first and only 501-C3
tax-exempt preserve in New York State dedicated exclusively to
the permanent care of exotic birds. The Priceless Parrot
Preserve, Inc. exists for the purpose of educating the public
about exotic birds, (both domestic and in the wild) and to give
a permanent home to abused, mistreated, and unwanted exotic
birds. We will not sell, breed or adopt out any birds who come
into our care. Our birds will live out the rest of their lives
here with dignity, respect and loving care. We will take in
birds that are no longer of "pet quality" provided they have no
illnesses that would threaten the rest of our flock. We handle
mainly large Macaws and Cockatoos, but will take in smaller
birds, room permitting.
Save A Pet Animal Rescue
issued a statement today following the tragic house fire of
Save-A-Pet Founder/President Dori Scofield. The Stony Brook
Fire occurred August 5, at 45 Blydenburgh Lane at
approximately 8:30 p.m. The cause of the fire appears to be
electrical. While Ms. Scofield, her husband, and four
children were not home at the time, the fire claimed the
lives of the family's 11 pets (7 dogs and 4 cats), all of
whom were previously rescued by Save-A-Pet.

The Southampton Animal Shelter & Adoption Center is a municipal
Shelter for the Town of Southampton providing Animal Control
services for the Town, offer pets for adoption, dog training and
behavioral help programs and 24 hour emergency services for
sick/injured animals and animals that might threaten public
safety.
