Little
Shelter - A non-profit animal rescue organization staffed
mainly by volunteers. We take abused and abandoned animals from
the streets and from those awaiting death at the municipal
pounds. We provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for
these animals while they are waiting for loving adoptive homes.
All prospective homes are carefully screened to ensure happy
endings. No animal is ever destroyed at Little Shelter unless he
or she is incurably ill.
Little Shelter is situated on six acres in Huntington, Long
Island, 30 minutes east of New York City. Our Sheltervale Pet
Cemetery operates on three acres. There are six buildings, two
kennels including outdoor runs, one large communal cattery with
individual rooms for nursing mothers, an isolation and medical
building and a five room house that serves as office and
administrative space. At any given time, we are the temporary
home to more than 300 animals.

Priceless
Parrot Preserve - The first and only Preserve in New York
dedicated exclusively to the permanent care of exotic birds. We do not
breed, sell, or adopt out any bird that comes through our doors. They
will live out the rest of their lives here, with dignity. We take in
birds that are no longer of pet quality provided they have no illnesses
that would threaten the rest of our flock. We handle mainly large Macaws
and Cockatoos but will take in smaller birds, room permitting. |
