Description: This fall, Adelphi will be showing The Opera in Cinema series from Emerging Pictures on its 30-foot Concert Hall screen. Get your ticket to the world famous La Scala Opera House.

Adelphi University Performing Arts Center's (AUPAC's) series showcasing opera from around the world allows you to enjoy some of the finest singers without leaving Long Island. The Opera in Cinema series from Emerging Pictures will be shown on the 30-foot Concert Hall screen, located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, N.Y., in crystal-clear high definition with surround sound. This fall, travel to Milan, Italy to the world's great opera house, Teatro alla Scala, where performances have been thrilling audiences since 1778. This series also celebrates Giuseppe Verdi’s bicentennial by featuring three of his most popular operas.
In 1839, the first opera by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) was performed. He soon became the composer whose name is linked more than any other with the history of La Scala. Year after year, visitors come to La Scala to experience not only the superb performances onstage, but also the exquisite atmosphere of Milan's musical jewel.

AIDA
Tragic, passionate and extravagant, this is the definitive production of Aida. Staged by the legendary director Franco Zeffirelli, this performance delivers the splendor and majesty of Verdi's drama with opera greats Roberto Alagna and Violeta Urmano. The performance will be shown on Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.

DON CARLO
Featuring opera stars Ferruccio Furlanetto, Stuart Neill, Fiorenza Cedonlins and Dolora Zajick. The story is based on the life of Carlos, Prince of Asturias, after his betrothed, Elisabeth of Valois, is married to his father Phillip II of Spain as a condition of the treaty that ended the Italian War of 1551-1559 between the Habsburg and Valois Houses. This performance of Don Carlo will be screened on Saturday, September 21 at 6:00 p.m.

LA TRAVIATA
With an all-star cast headed by Angela Gheorghiu, who was praised by Bloomberg News for having “mastered the role” and “acting her socks off,” this lavish production of La Traviata by Liliana Cavani boasts internationally famed conductor Lorin Maazel at the podium. The program will run on Sunday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m.

CARMEN
Lies. Lust. Murder. Brilliant music. Carmen, Bizet’s masterpiece, is one of the most popular operas of all time. With its titillating story and memorable melodies, the La Scala production stars opera greats Jonas Kaufmann and Erwin Schott, with newcomer Anna Rachvelishvili making her wildly successful debut as Carmen. The New York Times raved, “She triumphed…an unusual, concentrated focus, a fresh gravity.” This will be presented on Saturday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m.

DON GIOVANNI
The final screening of Don Giovanni this fall, an audience favorite for its surprisingly modern plot and soaring melodies. This opening night production has Daniel Barenboim at the podium. Mozart’s ultimate lady-killer villain meets his match in Anna Netrebko, the opera world’s “hottest female star.” Peter Mattei as the philandering Don, with Bryn Terfel as his sidekick Leoparello, the velvet voice Netrebko plays the much abused Donna Anna. Screening will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center is Long Island’s premier cultural arts venue for entertainment of all kinds. Tickets for these Opera in Cinema screenings are on sale now and are priced at $20.00 each. Information is available at The Lucia and Steven N.
