We start our journey visiting an ancient maritime forest that is over 300 years old at Sunken Forest, Fire Island.
Thursday July 23, 2015 9:00AM-4:00PM
We will head off-site for a guided kayak adventure on the Peconic River.
Friday July 24, 2015 9:00AM-4:00PM
Grab your swim trunks and water shoes. In the morning we will be using seining nets and strainers to discover and learn about life in the bay. In the afternoon we will have an orienteering lesson, search for Geocaches, and then explore the mud. This program you can register per day or for the week. Carpooling may be necessary for the offsite days.
About Quogue Wildlife Refuge
The Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 300 acre non-profit nature preserve that was founded in 1934 and is home to diverse wildlife. Open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset, you can enjoy walking seven miles of trails to explore diverse habitats including forests and ponds, as well as the ecologically rare Dwarf Pines in the Pine Barrens.
The Outdoor Wildlife Complex houses permanently injured wildlife that require human care to survive including a bobcat, owls, falcons, a bald eagle, foxes and other native New York animals.
The Charles Banks Belt Nature Center offers spectacular views of Old Ice Pond as well as a variety of wildlife exhibits, live animals, a nature library, and gift shop. Dogs and bicycles are not permitted on the trails. Admission is free. Come by and visit. |
