Description: We give budding young artists the opportunity to experiment with variety of art materials to create their own masterpieces. Explore different painting styles and techniques that will widen artistic skill and imagination helping build confidence with brush, palate and canvas. Techniques of fine art are taught in a non-competitive environment, giving students the tools and freedom to express their growing creativity. we combine technique, creativity and fun to allow children to develop confidence and self-expression. personal style is celebrated and age appropriate activities will be offered. A wide variety of classes are offered for children ages 5-18.

Full day 9:00AM-4:00PM

The classes run Monday-Friday. Half day classes either 9:00AM-12:00PM or 1:00PM-4:00PM are $185.00 for five half days. Full day classes are $350.00 for five full days. Full day students have lunch/recess 12:00PM-1:00PM and select the class for their age group each AM and PM session.

Class Descriptions

Draw, Paint and Create (Ages 5-8 and Ages 8-11)
Spend the summer boosting your creativity, while having fun in the process. In this exciting painting and drawing program, you will discover your talents through artistic exploration. A variety of techniques and mediums will be explored including oil pastel, watercolor paint, tempera paint, colored pencils and chalk pastels to name just a few. Be inspired by some of the world's most famous artists. This program is designed to bring out each child's unique, artistic ability in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Teacher: Kim Falco

Ages 5-8: We may get a little messy dripping paint like Jackson Pollack, or you could find yourself painting outside, enjoying the beautiful weather surrounded by nature like Monet! Create a Picasso inspired portrait, all while discovering your own special artistic style. Students must have turned 5 by January 1, 2015.

Ages 8-11: Our more experienced artists will expand a little more on artistic concepts. We will explore color and line, use items found in nature to create mixed media and even see what we can create with some recycled objects. Projects will be different each week, varying in medium, style and theme. Projects will be engaging and age appropriate.

Petit Picassos (Ages 5-7)
Jump into some abstract art this summer. Drip, splatter and create your own abstract works of art. We will explore some abstract work by famous artists and be inspired by the likes of Picasso, Matisse, and Kandinsky to name a few. We will paint with balloons and shaving cream, create collage and cut paper pictures, make Cubist self-portraits and so much more.

Wacky Watercolors (Ages 6-9)
Make a series of new abstract artworks every day with awesome watercolor techniques. Learn a fun new technique each day from painting with lemon juice and salt to wax resist to marbling. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Draw Draw Draw (Ages 7-10)
Develop your drawing skills and explore new artists and styles in this week long camp. Create fun abstract drawings including "scribble" and shape drawings, drawing with glue and more. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Printmaking (Ages 7-9)
Discover some of the many different techniques of printmaking. Create bright abstract compositions and wearable art with natural and man-made materials and textures using sun printing and monotype techniques. Use your fabulous drawing skills and relief printing techniques to design wonderful works of art! Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Magnificent Media (Ages 6-9 and 7-10)
Explore the many ways to create a composition using mixed media and collage techniques. Start painting with tissue paper and work your way up to making your own unique 2D/3D collaged artwork. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Mixed Media and More (Ages 9-12)
Create art in a completely new way. Explore the awesome techniques of collage and mixed media with a bit of printmaking and splash of watercolor. Start by learning multiple printmaking and watercolor techniques then use your own work to compose a unique mixed media masterpiece. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Draw Draw Draw II (Ages 9-12)
Bring your drawing skills to a whole new level. Explore drawing styles and new artists. Create drawings that range from abstract to more realistic, from Zentangles to self-portraits and more. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Water Media + (Ages 9-12)
Explore the extents of watercolor painting and ink drawing. Learn about Water Media techniques and artists. Make artworks with watercolors and inks that range from abstract to more representational. Teacher Jillian Hauck.

Art and Ecology
Each day, we explore a different ecosystem including oceans, rain forests, wetlands, deserts, tundra and more. Art projects (primarily painting, but also some mixed media) will feature the ecosystem and animals of the day. Learn about recycling and creating art out of "found objects." Different animals and plants in each session. $10.00 materials fee. Teacher: Ivy Michelle Berg.

My Own Sketchbook (Ages 8-11)
Learn how to use your sketchbook like the pros. Students will receive their own sketchbook and personalize their covers. This class will use different media such as pen and ink techniques, pencil, charcoal, and mixed media to fill up our pages! Learn how to sketch from observation inside the gallery and outside on the Mills Pond grounds.

More Drawing, More Painting, More Fun (Ages 7-9)
Experiment further with different materials, even things we find. Learn to complete a picture that is fun and exciting to you! Get a grasp on the basics of mediums while having fun.

Paint Create Draw (Ages 7-9)
Discover your creativity while learning the basics of drawing and painting. Explore the possibilities of technique within traditional subject matter (drawing from observation, portraiture) as well as topics from your imagination. Create your own unique pictures in a new, fun way. Teacher Krista Biedenbach.

Sculpture Time (Ages 8-10)
Students will use various materials including clay, Papier-mache, found objects and more to create fantastic sculptures! Students will create animals, people, objects from nature, imaginary creatures, functional objects and more! Emphasis is placed on the exploration and understanding of materials so that students will be able to apply their learning to future creations. Great classes to get messy, create great art and have fun! Teacher Krista Biedenbach.

Off the Runway (Ages 9-11)
Fashion Illustration for beginners Ages 9-11 Learn how the fashion figure is drawn in the professional industry. See trends from different eras and develop your own style. Experiment with different media to show excitement and attitude in your fashion illustrations. Draw your own dream outfits. Also, create a work of wearable art. Teacher Krista Biedenbach.

Famously Fashionable (Ages 9-11)
Fashion Illustration for Advanced Students Come and explore far-out media and fun fashion influences to boost the attitude in your fashion figures! Also, create a wearable work of art from your very own fashion illustrations. This class is designed as a continuation of the "Off the Runway" beginners' class. Teacher Krista Biedenbach.

Fashion Design Journal (Ages 14-16)
Students learn how to create a journal of fashion ideas and inspirations to capture their design ideas as they come, no matter where they are! Instruction on how to organize visual inspirations, fabric swatches and trim, and then sketch fashion designs on basic croquis. Students will work on an assigned theme and season covering concepts for womenswear or menswear. Create the ultimate fashion sketchbook: no previous art skills or design background necessary! Textile Design: Printed Fabrics (Ages 14-16)
Students create original painted designs for printed fashion fabrics marketable for women's, men's, and children's wear. Professional methods of designing patterns, repeats, and color combinations are explored using transparent watercolor and fabric dye. Teacher Missy Bernstein

The Fashion Cycle (Ages 16-18)
Students learn how their own fashion designs travel through the fashion design process; how to translate inspiration into sketches and mood/design boards; why one fabric is better than another; what happens in the pattern room; the fundamentals of garment construction and finally, how their designs can end up in their own online store. Fashion Design Portfolio Development (Ages 16-18)
Students develop a fashion design portfolio worthy of FIT submission guidelines for college application. Teacher Missy Bernstein.

Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of payment and is accepted through the first day of class when seats are available. Makeup classes are not available for absences. When you pre-register and class does not fill, your payment will be returned. Registration forms and payment via credit card on our website or check payable to STAC are required to secure a spot in a class. You will be notified as soon as class meets minimum enrollment.
