Tara is a female Buddha, a manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas, and because she is a manifestation of the completely purified wind element, she is swift as the wind! Prayers made to Green Tara are especially powerful for removing obstacles. During this retreat we engage in the practice called Liberation from Sorrow, which includes a special prayer, Praises to the Twenty-one Taras, composed by Buddha Shakyamuni. Each of the Twenty one Taras is a manifestation of the principal Tara, Green Tara, each one embodying a particular enlightened quality or skill.
