Slavery has not been abolished. Human trafficking is modern day slavery. It is exploitation. It is abuse. There are over 30 million people enslaved in the world today. In our country, about 80 percent of victims in sex trafficking incidents are U.S. citizens. The Department of Justice identified "the most intense (top twenty) trafficking jurisdictions in the country" which included both New York City and Long Island.
If you weren't aware, New York launched a statewide Human Trafficking Intervention Initiative in 2013. Human Trafficking courts now exist in Nassau County and Suffolk County. We challenge you to join us in the fight for justice. |
