East Northport Jewish Center Blood and Bone Marrow Drive 2016 at East Northport Jewish Center in East Northport, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
As we do each year on Election Day, we are asking that you join us and give the gift of life by donating blood. Blood is the lifeline of our bodies. Your donation critically impacts the lives of patients in our community. 4.5 Americans receive blood transfusions each year, with 40,000 pints transfused each day in the US to save cancer patients, accident, burn and trauma victims, newborns, mothers delivering babies, transplant patient, surgery patients and others in need.
This year, we are also asking that your participate in joining the blood marrow registry Be The Match. Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases need a bone marrow transplant. You could be the one to save a life. You won't be donating marrow on Election Day; you don't actually donate until you are a match for a patient. You'll give either a swab of cheek cells or a blood sample to be tissue-typed, which will be used to match you to potential patients. You could be the one a doctor will turn to when their patient needs a bone marrow transplant and there is no matching donor in the patient's family.
Please contact the synagogue office at 631-368-6474 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcomed. |
