1st Annual East End School Wellness Conference 2016 at Bridgehampton Community House in Bridgehampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
Wellness Foundation, in partnership with Edible School Gardens and the Southampton Hospital Wellness Institute is pleased to host the first East End School Wellness Conference.
Hear about the relationship between healthy eating, physical activity and academic performance and be inspired to do more. Learn about best practices and available resources to strengthen their wellness efforts. Have the opportunity to network with other East End educators and professionals in the wellness field. Leave with a $500.00 grant to use toward a wellness initiative.
OVERVIEW
The goal of this conference is to help East End schools strengthen their wellness practices to build healthier children and healthier communities. Participants will have the chance to hear from experts and learn practical ideas they can use immediately to improve wellness in their schools. We will reserve time for school teams to identify goals for their wellness efforts. Each school that brings a team to the conference will receive a $500 Wellness Grant courtesy of our partner Bridgehampton National Bank.
Who Is Invited
Teams from schools from Southampton to Montauk. Team members should include the principal or assistant principal and 3-5 others who work on or care about wellness such as a school nurse, teacher, parent, or food service professional.
Why IS School Wellness Important
Research has shown that good nutrition and physical activity can strengthen academic performance, behavior and overall health. Furthermore, schools can play a critical role in helping children develop habits that combat obesity and set them up for a lifetime of good health. We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to be healthy and reach their full potential. Also, public schools in New York State are required to have a wellness committee and a wellness policy and this conference will help them strengthen those efforts.
Topics Covered
We have some great speakers from throughout the state from organizations such as Action for Healthy Kids and Creating Healthy Schools and Communities. They will address topics such as building a successful school wellness policy; fun ways to improve nutrition and physical activity; making healthier school meals that kids will eat; supporting staff wellness; getting parents and the community on board; and connecting kids to our local food supply, among other topics.
Cost
The costs of this conference are being covered by the sponsors so there is no charge for invited schools. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
RSVP
Please RSVP to info@wfeh.org. Please include your name, your role at the school (e.g. nurse, health teacher, parent, etc) school name, phone number and email address.
