Deli Man - February 27, 2016
At last, the deli documentary you've been waiting for! Erik Greenberg Anjou's film explores Jewish culture as it reflects the heart of a vital ethnic history. In Houston, Texas, third-generation deli man Ziggy Gruber has built arguably the finest delicatessen restaurant in the USA, Kenny and Ziggy's. His story -augmented by the stories of iconic delis such as Katz's, 2nd Avenue Deli, Nate'n Al, Carnegie and the Stage- embodies a tradition indelibly linked to its savory, nostalgic foods. Learn about the traditions that make deli one of America's great cuisines.
The Couple - March 19, 2016
Martin Landau stars in a story that takes place during World War II in Nazi Germany and centers on a German couple that works for a wealthy Jewish industrialist who, because of his wealth, is afforded a chance to "buy" his freedom from the Nazis.
A Borrowed Identity - April 30, 2016
The complex interrelated identities of Jewish and Palestinian Israelis - two peoples divided by a shared culture - is movingly explored in this sharply mounted drama about a young Arab who finds reasons to "pass" as Jewish.
The North Fork Reform Synagogue
The Only Reform Congregation on The North Fork
North Fork Reform Synagogue is a small congregation rooted in an expansive interpretation of Jewish practices and culture. Our focus is on building a warm and supportive community that meets the needs of our members. North Fork Reform Synagogue is a proud member of Union for Reformed Judaism.
We have no permanent paid staff, so our the members build strong bonds as we work together to keep our congregation vibrant and provide a wide variety of programs and activities. Our student rabbis from Hebrew Union college give us fresh perspectives as we learn together.
We offer Shabbat services and Hebrew School for children and adults, Torah study, holiday observances, and an erudite newsletter expressing views both controversial and loving, plus a rich menu of activities which involve the greater North Fork community including challah baking lessons, Poetry for Peace (a non-denominational contest for all local children), speakers on issues of local and national concern, a film series, and the North Fork Foodie Tour which provides visitors the opportunity to get behind the scenes and learn about the operations of farmers and food producers who are creating a vibrant local food scene. |
