8th Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration 2016 Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone Asian American Advisory Board at Thai Cultural Center Vajaradhammapdip Buddhist Temple in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
Parade of Nations; multi-cultural booths display from eleven (11) Asian cultures; food vendors and non-food vendors; open theater music, dance and martial arts; AAAB Youth Orchestra; Lion Dance and Taiko Drums Demonstration; Asian arts and crafts.
The afternoon's entertainment includes multi-cultural booths from eleven (11) different cultures such as Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam with arts and crafts displays, open theater, tea ceremony, photo exhibit, workshops, and vendor booths selling small items indigenous to countries represented. At 1:30PM we will be featuring the AAAB/Wellbrook Foundation Youth Orchestra who will explore the world of music ranging from Renaissance to 21st Century. At 4:30PM the highlight of the afternoon activities will start with an awards ceremony for Distinguished Asian Americans, plus multi-cultural dances, social harmony writing contest, musical and vocal performances by featured Asian artist from Thailand.

The mission of the Suffolk County Asian American Advisory Board is to bring to the attention of the County Executive those issues that impact upon the Asian-American communities throughout the County of Suffolk. The purposes of the Board shall be promoted through educational programs, conferences, committees, projects and other programs.
- Seek community input on relevant issues that impact their communities.
- Improve communications and cultural understanding between the Asian-American communities, government, and its residents.
- Address pertinent issues, some of which include education, health, legislation, small business development and economic development.
- Encourage civic participation in the communities. |
