"Running for Their Lives: Voices of Child Refugees"
"Corriendo por sus Vidas: Voces de ninos refugiados"
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County and Mercy First (a Sanctuary Certified Agency), present "Running for Their Lives: Voices of Child Refugees" a bilingual program featuring testimony and artwork by former child refugees from the Holocaust as well as recent child refugees from Central America. A special exhibit consists of multimedia artwork and creative writing from young children in Mercy First's "Start with Hope" program who have recently come to the USA to escape violence, rape and death threats from traffickers, drug cartels and gangs.
Speakers include Anita Weisbord, a former child refugee from Vienna who fled Nazi persecution on a Kindertransport to England; Severio Ford, program manager at MercyFirst and Daniela Azzi, an art teacher at MercyFirst.
During the Nazi era we failed as a nation to help endangered Jewish children who sought safety in the USA Since the summer of 2014, Americans have heard callous condemnations against endangered children fleeing to our borders trying to escape violence, rape and death in Central America. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited so please RSVP in advance. |
