At Girls Inc. of Long Island, our programs activities are designed to encourage young girls to be STRONG, SMART and BOLD - giving girls a BOLD space to dream big about their futures, the SMART knowledge and resources to get there, and the STRONG networks to support them.
Girls Incorporated of Long Island provides school and community based programming that serves the unique needs of girls, ages 6-18, living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Through community partnerships, we help girls to achieve their full potential making their future brighter. Girls Incorporated of Long Island is dedicated to the advocacy of gender equity for all girls in all areas of their lives. Through participation in our programs, girls learn the skills to become leaders in their communities, leading to exponential change.
Stay tuned as we plan to introduce the following programs in 2012:
Girls Inc. Operation SMART
Girls develop enthusiasm for and skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Programs to include: Eureka, a multi-year program combining sports and personal development activities; Girls Dig It, a program dedicated to learning about the field of archaeology; and Thinking Smart, linking girls to professionals (particularly women) in the STEM fields.
Girls Inc. Media Literacy
Girls increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. They will learn to analyze what they see and hear in the media and advocate for change in entertainment, news, media and advertising. Girls will have the opportunity to create media that are realistic and reflective of their lives. They will also learn about media-related careers and the positive use of media. |
