Salt Marsh Explorers
Children's Educational Summer Camp
Ages 5-8
July 28 - August 1, 2014
Set at the Ernst Marine Conservation Center, located in the heart of an 88-acre wetland preserve at West Meadow Creek, Stony Brook, participants explore this unique breeding area for animals and plants including fiddler crabs, fish and marsh birds. We will discover the area's habitat exploring the water's edge to collect the many varieties of plants and animals that make up the salt marsh ecosystem. At the lab, we will observe adaptations using touch tanks, microscopes and magnifying glasses, learn the concept of zonation and do experiments that demonstrate solar energy which powers the ecosystem. We well also seine for fish, do fun crafts and use field guides to identify animal tracks. |
