Children's Ocean Explorers Summer Camp 2014 at the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York.
Monday-Friday
July 7-11, 2014
9:30AM-1:00PM
Entering 4-5 grades. Counselors in training (CIT) entering 7th grade + grades sharks. Squid, deep sea. Explore the wonders of ocean creatures. Camp runs 9:30AM-1:00PM, extended care is available until 2:00PM.
Every day of camp is full of different activities as we focus on diverse themes which explore the ocean in fun ways. Camp starts off with open free time in our workshop room, followed by the day's set activities, which usually include touching objects and artifacts from the collection, playing active tag games, creative art-making, and highly hands-on exploration stations. We sometimes break into small groups for set station activities that children rotate through. We have a snack break (which we'll happily supply, often juice and a pretzel party mix) as well as a lunch break (bring lunch and a water bottle with you). Sometimes we have live animals visit too and when good. Weather/low tide match up, we take a special trip to the shore. We will let you know when this is planned. Camp ends as kids complete an art activity to take home. Snacks served. Sign up for one day or every day. Sibling discount.
About Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum
Long Island, People and The Sea
The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits objects and documents pertinent to whaling, especially the regional whaling history of Long Island, whale conservation, and the history of Cold Spring Harbor as a maritime port. The Museum serves a broad and diverse public audience.
The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum has served three generations of Long Islanders, having opened its doors to the public in 1942. The Whaling Museum is the only facility on Long Island and in New York State open year-round which focuses primarily on the whaling history of the region. Its collection provides the community and its constituents with a significant link to the understanding of one of Long Island's earliest major industries whaling. The collection was formed by the local community who recognized the need for a repository to preserve the region's local maritime history and Cold Spring Harbor's whaling past. |
