The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council
Bringing The Arts To The Community and The Community To The Arts
The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council's mission is to support artistic activity in the Northern Brookhaven area embodying music, film, and visual arts and all educational and cultural endeavors as they relate to the arts. This mission is accomplished by coordinating our efforts with arts organizations, artists, local municipalities, schools, art galleries, libraries, theaters and other such organizations within the community that share our common goal.
Active programs and services include the Digital Archiving Initiative with over 17,000 historic images of Northern Brookhaven, many of which are on exhibit at the Port Jeff Village Center; several film series including documentaries, student films and Cinema in the Park; outreach, grant-writing, printing, technical, computer and by-laws assistance for smaller non-profits in the area; master classes at local school districts; visual arts exhibits; coordination of the Annual Charles Dickens Festival in Port Jefferson; On the Mend with Music program for pediatric patients at Stony Brook Hospital; and Give the Gift of Music program which distributes musical instruments to children in need. Since 1986, GPJAC has served the entire Northern Brookhaven area of Long Island from the North Shore down to Route 25, a community of approximately 215,000 people consisting of all age, socio-economic and racial groups.
