The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead is pleased to announce a special program in commemoration of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Jointly sponsored by Congregation Beth Israel, Elmont Jewish Center, Franklin Square Jewish Center, the Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead, Malverne Jewish Center and the Valley Stream Jewish Center, the program will commence with a traditional Yom HaShoah service, and will include a children's processional as well as musical selections performed by the Cantors and choir.
This evening of reflection and observance will be highlighted by guest speaker, Karen Franklin, researcher for the upcoming exhibit at The Museum of Jewish Heritage, My Brother's Keeper: American Jewish Rescuers. Mrs. Franklin is also the Director of the Lehman Family Rescue Activities Project. Ms. Franklin will speak about the obstacles to finding refuge in the US and other countries by the Jews in Europe before the doors for escape to safety closed.
The combined sponsorship by six Congregations in the Southwest Nassau area is a dramatic demonstration of commitment to remember the Holocaust. The community at large is invited to attend and participate in what is sure to be a moving and inspirational evening. Admission is free and no reservations are required. |
