Meeting of The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island Speaker Karen Franklin - The Untold Story of the Lehman Family and Its Aid to Refugees: 1933-1945 at Mid-Island Y-JCC in Plainview, Nassau County, Long Island, New York.
Few people know of the role of NY Governor Herbert Lehman and a vast network of his relatives in assisting Jewish refugees fleeing Germany and Austria between 1933 and 1941, and in helping them establish themselves in their new countries. Karen Franklin, Director Family Research at the Leo Baeck Institute, will shed light on these extraordinary efforts and she'll describe her efforts to trace the refugees' descendants and to document the fates of those who couldn't be saved.
This meeting is open to the public. Meetings include announcements and a tip of the month. Experts available at 1:30PM. |
