Title: Broadway Barks - A Star Studded Cat and Dog Adopt-A-Thon
Sub Title: Benefiting New York City Animal Shelters and Adoption Agencies
Date: July 14, 2012
Time: 3:30 PM  to 6:30 PM
Location: Broadway - New York CIty
Street Address: Shubert Alley (West 44th and 45th between Broadway
  New York City, NY 10036
Description: Join Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons along with 20 other animal organizations for this Super Adopt-A-Thon in NYC. The event is hosted by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore and features a star-studded line up with a silent auction and the Parade of Dogs at 5:30PM.

Broadway Barks is a free, star-studded dog and cat adoptathon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. The annual event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, takes place the second Saturday in July in Shubert Alley, with festivities and celebrity presentations of adoptable pets from citywide animal shelters.

Broadway Barks helps many of New York City's shelter animals find permanent homes by informing New Yorkers about the plight of the thousands of homeless dogs and cats in the metropolitan area. Funds raised from a raffle, silent auction, signed memorabilia sales, and donations are distributed to the participating shelters and rescue groups and to the Picasso Veterinary Fund, which is administered by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals and provides grants to shelters and rescue groups to cover extraordinary veterinary costs.

Every year millions of companion animals are killed simply because they have no place to live. Millions. Millions of cats and dogs killed by lethal injection, and in some states gas chambers, not as punishment for a crime, but because they are homeless. Many animals are young and healthy but are put to death anyway. The statistics are disturbing, but even more disturbing is that these deaths are totally preventable. One solution is foster care. Foster care is an integral part of the effort to save homeless animals from needless euthanasia and to find them permanent homes where they can live long and happy lives. However, not enough people are becoming fosters, and healthy animals continue dying every day. Broadway Barks reached out to several animal fosters to find out what fostering is all about and why it is so important to become an animal foster.
